Kelly Piquet has responded after facing backlash over her comments about the protests in France.
Kelly shared a lengthy Instagram message, saying she was upset by what happened. She wrote, “There is a difference between protesting, demanding change and making your voice heard, and destroying the very communities you claim to be fighting for.”
She acknowledged that people have genuine reasons to be angry when they feel ignored by the institutions meant to serve them.
But she argued that damaging businesses and public buildings hurts ordinary people without addressing the problems behind the protests.
Honestly, I can understand her concern for people whose livelihoods are caught up in the destruction. Having your business damaged doesn’t become less devastating because there’s a wider cause involved.
At the same time, I think that argument needs to leave room for discussing why people felt driven to protest. Condemning the damage shouldn’t mean the original problems get pushed aside.
Now Kelly has replied underneath a post about the backlash, writing, “Standing by what I said”.
Before you go, I wanna know… was Kelly making a fair comment, or did her message overlook the reasons behind the protests?
