Gemma Owen’s Clothing Brand Faces Closure After Falling £10,000 Into D*bt

Gemma Owen is facing a £10,000 business setback after applying to have her clothing brand struck off the company register.

Her mum Louise is also listed as a director authorising the move, and the latest accounts show the company is £10,000 in debt.

The brand began as OG Beachwear in 2020, before Gemma went on Love Island. She wore her own designs in the villa, including a £72 swimsuit, giving it huge reach.

After the show, she rebranded it as GRO Clothing and added loungewear. She also secured a six-figure deal with PrettyLittleThing.

Previous accounts showed the company had made nothing in its latest financial year, following a £1,670 loss the year before. I can understand why the latest figures are disappointing, but having a famous name and a big platform doesn’t automatically turn attention into lasting sales.

The timing is awkward too, as Gemma is back on television with her family’s new show, Meet the Owens.

A source called the move “embarrassing”, saying there had been a real expectation that Gemma would turn her Love Island fame into a hugely successful business.

She still has other brand partnerships and opportunities, though, so this doesn’t mean her career is over.

Before you go, I wanna know… why do you think it didn’t work out?
