Josh Widdicombe has responded after he was branded as a “spare part” during the first live show.
The new hosting setup saw Josh and Emma Willis presenting from the dancefloor, while Johannes Radebe interviewed the celebrities from the auditorium.
But I saw viewers questioning exactly where Josh fitted into the new format. Emma and Johannes seemed to have pretty defined roles, while Josh appeared to have less to do at certain points.
Honestly, I think that’s probably why the “spare part” comments started. When you’ve suddenly got three people sharing presenting duties, viewers are naturally going to notice if one person seems quieter than the others.
Josh did get his own memorable moment, though. The “change partners” part became a fan-favourite moment of the night.
That actually got plenty of viewers laughing, so the reaction wasn’t completely negative.
But Josh clearly noticed the criticism. Underneath a post about viewers calling him a “spare part”, he wrote: “People are being so harsh”.
I actually think he’s got a point. It’s the first live show with a completely new setup, and judging someone this much feels a bit mean. I think people should give him a chance before judging him.
