Kirk Hammett has called out Turnstile for turning down an offer to open for Metallica on tour.
James Hetfield shared the news on Riff Life, explaining that they’d approached Turnstile about opening for them. He said, “We wanted to get them on tour, and they said no. They’re doing good on their own already.”
But James still encouraged people to see them, praising their energy and saying they were even better live.
Getting invited is flattering, but having James recommend your shows even after you’ve said no is quite a compliment.
It also makes me wonder how that conversation went. Turning down Metallica can’t be an everyday decision, although Turnstile haven’t explained why they couldn’t make it happen.
And now Kirk has made it clear he wanted them there too. Underneath a post about the news, he commented saying, “Wish they’d done it”.
To me, that sounds disappointed rather than annoyed. I like that he’s being honest about wanting them on the bill without sounding mad about it.
Hopefully, they make an appearance during the tour, even for just 1 song, as it would be great to get to see them perform with Metallica.
Before you go, I wanna know… which band would you most want to see open for Metallica?
