Chris Brown has reacted after Jay-Z was announced for the 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show, raising questions about his role in choosing the performer.
Jay is set to perform in California on February 14. But through Roc Nation, he’s also helped bring artists to the halftime stage, which makes his own selection more controversial.
Honestly, I can understand why people think that looks unfair. When you’re involved in creating opportunities for other artists, getting that opportunity yourself is going to raise questions about how the decision was made.
I think Jay has enough songs to put on a great show. But whether he deserves the slot as an artist is a separate question from whether he should have a say in selecting himself.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell welcomed the announcement, saying he couldn’t be more excited. So there’s support from the NFL, although I’d still want to know what involvement Jay had in the choice.
Now Chris has commented underneath a post about the announcement, leaving a sleeping-face emoji.
I think he’s saying that he thinks it’s a boring choice. I’d be more interested in whether other artists got a fair chance, because Jay’s connection to the selection process makes that a reasonable question.
Before you go, I wanna know… is it fair for Jay-Z to headline when his company helps organise the show?
