Alan Bersten has addressed the backlash over stepping in for Val on Dancing With the Stars following his suspension.
Val will miss the October 20 episode after referencing Will Smith’s Oscars incident in response to Carrie Ann Inaba’s criticism of his wife, Jenna Johnson. Producers called the post wrong and confirmed he wouldn’t take part in the next show.
Alan is now stepping in to dance with Jenna Dewan, despite being eliminated earlier this season alongside his celebrity partner, Giada De Laurentiis.
I can understand why the switch surprised people, but the professionals have to support each other when someone can’t take part.
Emma Slater made that point under a TikTok video discussing Alan stepping in, writing, “Yeah, that’s what happens, we all step in for each other.”
That makes sense to me. Alan is no longer competing, but he can still help another professional when they need it. It’s a reminder that the cast can support each other even when the competition takes an unexpected turn.
Alan has also responded to a post about the situation, leaving a blue heart emoji.
It’s a small gesture, but it keeps things positive instead of things seeming too heated.
