Val has responded after fans questioned why he smooched Tatyana Ali’s hand during Monday’s live show.
It happened as Val and Jenna Johnson were being introduced. Tatyana was standing beside them with Yan when Val reached over, held her hand and smooched it.
The gesture might have seemed harmless, but there’s been tension between Val and Tatyana since his now-deleted post referencing her Fresh Prince co-star Will Smith while defending Jenna against judge Carrie Ann Inaba’s criticism.
Tatyana was the contestant most upset by those comments, and she later made it clear she deliberately avoided teaming up with Val and Jenna for this week’s group dances. When someone suggested that was intentional, she replied, “Very much so.”
So, considering that history, I can see why the hand moment caught people off guard. We didn’t see Tatyana’s reaction, making it difficult to know how she felt, but the timing certainly made the gesture interesting.
Val has now addressed the reaction. Underneath a post about the moment, he wrote, “I’m tired of the fans overreacting to everything these days”.
