Lewis Hamilton has called out Charles Leclerc over his preferential equal treatment clause in his Ferrari contract.
The clause reportedly dates back to 2020 and covers sporting and technical matters. If accurate, Ferrari could be prevented from setting clear rules for how they compete.
Lewis has been vocal about wanting a written agreement at Ferrari, and I can understand why. When two drivers compete for the same team, clear rules could make decisions on track much less complicated.
At the same time, Charles has been with Ferrari since 2019, so any arrangements in his contract would have been agreed long before Lewis arrived. That doesn’t automatically mean he’s being given an unfair advantage, but it raises questions about how Ferrari can ensure both drivers are treated equally.
Lewis has now weighed in himself. Underneath a post discussing the reported clause, he commented: “This is crazy”.
To me, that reaction stands out because he has repeatedly pushed for clearer rules within the team. The key question is whether this clause prevents Ferrari from putting them in place.
Before you go, I wanna know… should Ferrari have the same rules for Lewis and Charles, or should Charles’s long history with the team count for something more?
