Billie Eilish has reacted to the backlash over what she said about parents, and I think what she said will annoy people even more.
When I first watched the clip, I immediately understood why people were mad. Billie completely slammed conventional classrooms and claims people who send their kids to traditional schools are just lazy. Critics are completely blasting the comments, calling her privileged and wildly out of touch.
Billie grew up being homeschooled alongside her older brother, Finneas, and she’s always spoken positively about that experience. But in the interview, she said, “I think some people do it the wrong way, which just makes your life horrible and miserable and boring. That’s mainly because parents are lazy, that’s why they send their kids to school in the first place.”
When I heard that, the first thing I thought about was all the parents who have no choice but to work full-time.
Most families simply don’t have the time or financial freedom to homeschool, so I can completely understand why people feel those comments came across as out of touch.
Now Billie has addressed the backlash by leaving a comment with a simple sleeping emoji.
Personally, I think that response probably made the situation worse. To me, it doesn’t look like she’s trying to explain what she meant or understand why people are upset. It just makes it seem like she doesn’t really care how her comments were received.
