Ian Gillan has broken his silence after cancelling two Deep Purple shows in Germany.
Ian was taken to care over the weekend, leaving the band unable to perform in Leipzig and Hamburg.
I saw that he’d been performing across Europe on the Splat World Tour earlier in October, so the news is concerning.
Ian has also previously said he has only 30 per cent vision, but didn’t want that to stop him performing. That’s a separate issue, and the information shared here doesn’t explain what caused him to cancel.
Honestly, I feel for him and the fans who were looking forward to those shows. But I’d much rather see a concert cancelled than have someone feel pressured to perform before they’re ready.
A source has now said: “Ian is incredibly disappointed that he’s had to cancel the shows. Performing has always been such a huge part of his life, and the last thing he wants is to let the fans down. He’s trying to remain positive, but being in this state has been a worrying experience. He’s determined to get back on stage as soon as he’s well enough, although those around him are encouraging him not to rush his recovery.”
I hope he gives himself that time. Missing a show is disappointing, but his well-being matters more than keeping the tour moving.
