Leigh-Anne Pinnock has reacted after people questioned why she is charging fans to follow her journey.
Leigh-Anne created an account where subscribers can pay £5 a month for updates on her everyday life and a closer look at her journey before welcoming her third child with Andre Gray.
There is a free option, but some posts are only available to paying members.
The backlash started because people already associate Leigh-Anne with years of success through Little Mix and her solo career. She’s worth tens of millions, so it did seem a bit strange that she’d want to charge fans.
The price became a bigger story than the actual content. Creators charge for exclusive access all the time, but updating about kids feels more personal, so people are viewing this differently.
At the same time, I don’t think anybody is being forced to subscribe, so maybe it would be best if people stop giving her backlash.
Now Leigh-Anne has responded under a post about the criticism, saying, “I’ve got bills to pay!”
To me, she is clearly joking, but she is also making it obvious that she does not feel bad for charging. She knows some fans want closer access, and she is treating that interest like any other creator would.
Before you go, I wanna know, is charging for updates fair, or out of touch?
