Dustin Poirier has responded to Sean Strickland after his rant about him opening up about depression.
When I first saw Sean’s comments, I could already tell they were going to divide people. After Dustin spoke honestly about struggling with depression, Sean basically dismissed the idea that someone who has money, success, and a family could still be depressed.
He argued that if you’ve got everything going for you, you shouldn’t be complaining. Personally, I just don’t think that’s how things work.
Sean did try to explain where he was coming from. He opened up about his own past and said he’d struggled for most of his life, but instead of seeing himself as a victim, he found purpose through MMA.
He also said helping other people made him feel better and encouraged anyone who’s struggling to do the same.
I can understand why Sean’s message might resonate with some people, especially those who believe taking action can help improve their mindset. But I also think it overlooks the fact that depression can affect people regardless of how successful or happy their life looks from the outside.
Now, Dustin has responded. Under a post about Sean’s comments, he simply wrote, “Disgrace.”
To me, that says everything. Dustin clearly didn’t appreciate his experience being brushed aside, and honestly, I can see why.
Before you go, I wanna know, who do you agree with?
