Charlie from Love Island has reacted after receiving backlash over his Halloween costumes.
Charlie and Kenzie shared their outfits online, with Charlie dressing as Carl Gallagher from Shameless, while Kenzie dressed up as Princess Tiana.
But instead of people just discussing their costumes, some viewers accused the couple of appropriation.
And I think that makes this a slightly different conversation, because people weren’t just saying they disliked the outfits. They were questioning whether Charlie and Kenzie should’ve dressed as those characters at all.
Kenzie hasn’t spoken out about this yet, even though thousands are calling for her to apologise for the costume that she wore.
But it seems like Charlie thinks the criticism has gone too far and isn’t sorry about it.
Underneath a post discussing their costumes, he commented, “It’s just a costume”.
I can see what he means, but I don’t think that response will satisfy people who genuinely found the costumes offensive. Some are looking for an apology rather than a dismissal.
