Tyrique Hyde has made things so much worse after his response to what he said about Samraj.
People are really upset after he kept referring Samraj as Vikkstar, even though they do not look alike at all. He also laughed at people mispronouncing Samraj’s name on Love Island.
Many fans feel this is an example of casual racial insensitivity against South Asian people, just being brushed under the rug.
Personally, I think it’s totally unfair to compare people just because they share the same background, especially when they look completely different. It’s really clear that they don’t look alike at all.
Some people are pointing out that a lack of representation in the media leads to these awkward situations, since it seems like Vikkstar is the only reference point for some people.
Now Tyrique has stepped in to address the backlash. In a video, he said, “People are saying that it’s prejudiced. I can’t believe that, because I am the furthest thing from that.”
He compared the situation to a past show where he joked about another person’s appearance, and everyone laughed.
He added that he even complimented Samraj by saying he looks better than Vikkstar, so he doesn’t see why it is a problem now.
His response shows he might not fully understand why people are so offended, and I expect the backlash to get even worse.
